The Cattana Wetlands is around 80 hectares of degraded land which Council has rehabilitated into a nature conservation park. It's situated off Dunne Road in Smithfield, accessed by either Yorkeys Knob Road or McGregor Road, approximately 20km north of the CBD.
Facilities available are BBQs, picnic areas, toilets, bird hides and a 420m boardwalk through the feather palm forest.
The track winding around the wetlands is an ideal place to bring small kids and bikes as the paths are wide and long. This is an interesting place to come to as it is often quite empty and many different types of plants and birds are around. You feel like you have taken a step into another world sometimes. It is quite open so make sure you bring ample sunscreen, hats and longer sleeved shirts. Bringing your own water is also a good idea.
